Training at Ballysillian finishes. Replaced by training at Ballysillian

Bad news. BU winter training at Ballysillian has finished. But good news. It's being replaced with training at Ballysillian.

The current Friday evening sessions on Ballysillian Leisure Centre's 3G pitch are being extended another 4 weeks by a new series of training sessions. Same time, same place.

The cost for the 4 training sessions is either £10 for all four, or £4 per evening. Everyone is welcome, for intermediate players up.

Queen’s (we’re not from New York – word) headed down to Limerick at the weekend to participate in one of the fastest growing tournaments in Ireland – the Siege of Limerick. We were to be the first team from Northern Ireland to enter the competition, be we very nearly didn’t make it down after a number of last minute drop-outs. Thankfully the 8 strong squad from the north made the 5 hour journey down south to represent!

HODE - The Little Tournament That Could

Jordanstown 3G pitch

The first ever Happy One Day Event (HODE) is happening on the morning of 6th March 2010 in Jordanstown, University of Ulster. It's a hat tournament (teams are picked out of a hat) open to anyone to attend, whether just started or experienced.

The tournament will take place on the indoor 3G pitch at Jordanstown. It's a synthetic pitch, so astroturf boots, or something similar is recommended. Start time is 10:00am sharp and will finish around 12:00pm. The cost is £2 per player.

Belfast Ultimate Awards 2009 - Voting Open

The nominations are in and voting has now started for the BU & GSH Awards 2009. The nominees are listed below. To vote, send an email to belfastultimate@googlemail.com, listing the category and the person you are voting for. You can only vote for one player per category. Voting by email closes on Friday 18th December. You can vote in person at the Christmas Cracker if you miss this deadline.

Important Draft League Update

Unfortunately, the Draft League will not be taking place as originally planned. This is due to fluctuating player numbers on different weeks and the Queens team having inter-varsity matches.

Instead, there will be a one day event were the picked teams can play. This will be on 5th December 2009 at Stranmillis Embankment, beside the PEC, starting at 10am and finishing around 3pm. The three teams will play each other twice and then there'll be a final for the top two teams.

Belfast Ultimate Awards 2009: Nominations are open

Nominations are now open for the BU & GSH Awards 2009. The BU Awards are run each year as a way to recognise personal and group achievements. The GSH Awards take a more light hearted approach, as a way to look back at all those memorable moments and contributions (intentional or otherwise) throughout the year.

To nominate a player for an award, send an email to belfastultimate@googlemail.com, stating the category, the player's name, and a short description of why you are nominating that person. The categories are listed below.

Queens Ultimate travel to Dublin for Intervarsities

Queens Ultimate Frisbee team photo

Last Saturday, the Queens University Ultimate team competed in the first tournament of their sophomore year. The team commuted to a very wet Dublin City University to play Indoor Intervarsity’s against 13 other teams from universities and colleges all across Ireland.

The team was quietly confident going into the weekend, having narrowly beaten Belfast team Deep Heat by a single point in a friendly at the Grove Wellbeing Centre on the previous Wednesday.
