The Hammered Tortoise And The Scruffy Hare

We had heard the rumours that they were like energiser bunnies on speed but they started slowly, very slowly, wet batteries probably. In fact they didn’t even show up for our 11am game so it wasn’t until about 2pm that we managed to reschedule the game and boy did we regret it!

True to form Scruff started out at a pace that we could not match basically scoring at will and racing into an easy lead. Thanks for the reversal of fortunes must go to an unlikely source, Deep Heat. They had already lent us 1 player to make up a team of 5 but when the Old Man had to go off the remaining members of their team joined in to claw back Scruff’s lead. Thank you Deep Heat.

In fairness to Scruff they took their foot off the pedal a little towards the end and started to enjoy themselves however this allowed us to nearly catch up in the scoring stakes. They should have won by much more but on so many occasions they had their whole team free in the endzone that they couldn’t decide who to make the scoring pass to! At the end of the game I am sure you could have asked any of 14 players what the score was and you would have got 14 different answers because at that stage of the day it didn’t really seem to matter!
