Sneaking up with stealth, and then BOOM, it's the Belfast Ultimate Awards 2011. Nominations are open.
The awards recognise and celebrate key achievements of individuals and groups through the year. This year also sees the passing of the GSH Awards and the introduction of the all new, and entirely the same, BXM Awards. These awards take a more jovial approach, as a way to recap all the memorable moments and contributions throughout the year, whether they were intentional or not.
Anyone who is a BU member, or played Summer League, or has been involved with BU in the past, is free to nominate other players. To nominate a player for an award, send an email to awards@belfastultimate.org, stating the category, the player's name, and a short description of why you are nominating that person. You don't have to nominate for every category. Just the one's you are interested in.
Nominations will close on Sunday 11th December. Voting will commence shortly thereafter. The winners will be announced after the Christmas Cracker on Saturday 17th December.
The awards categories are listed below.
The 'Belfast Ultimate Awards 2011' categories
- Player of the Year
- Who achieved most on the pitch
- Best Beginner
- Best player who's been playing for less than 15 months (this is so as to include players who started playing at uni last year). Anyone who started playing after Sept 09 is eligible.
- Biggest Contribution to Belfast Ultimate
- Who deserves recognition for their efforts in developing Ultimate in Belfast.
- Most Spirited Player
- The player who has most exemplified spirit and sportsmanship throughout the year.
The 'Gayray Shirley Hughes Benjamin Xerxes MacTillian Awards 2011' categories
- Most memorable moment (on or off the pitch)
- What moment from the previous year that sticks in your mind the most.
- Best match
- Includes all matches organised by BU or played by BU associated teams.
- Favourite Tournament
- What was the best tournament attended by Belfast teams during the year?
- Celebrity Look-a-like
- Some players deserve to be celebrities in their own right. Others just act like it. But who most looks like a celebrity. (It would be useful when nominating to include a photo of the celebrity the nominee looks like/is supposed to look like.)
- Most Integrated International
- Belfast has quite a number of foreign players. Which of them have adapted to the Northern Ireland way of life the best.
- Award for Outstanding Action Sequences
- or the Stuntman/woman award. Who puts their body in harms way, in an attempt to show off (...and maybe get the disc.)
- Best Supporting Sideline
- Who encourages and builds up their team members the best (or not)
- Most Travelled
- (This is a non-voting category.) Who has clocked up the most miles in pursuit of the disc? When nominating, please provide a list of tournaments the nominee has attended throughout the year. The number of miles traveled will then be calculated. (Only tournaments count. Calculating travel to training sessions would break the computer.)
