2011
The following were nominated for the Benjamin Xerxes MacTillion 2011.
Most memorable moment (on or off the pitch)
The moment from the previous year that sticks in the mind the most.
- "Crazy Face" from All-Ireland Indoors - After falling out of a poorly constructed bunk-bed and managing to land on his feet making a little bit of a bang, Steve Hammond was probably feeling pretty proud of himself...until literally 7-8 seconds later the door burst open. The night watchman (Crazy Face) had managed to get out of his chair, hurdle a soft, scale a flight of stairs, take a few sharp corners and BURST into our rooms yelling
"What the F**k, GUYS?"
- ‘I want to take his face … off’ All-Ireland Mixed Saturday Evening - After a hard day's play, the core of the BUG team settled in to a rather nice hotel in war-torn north Dublin, not taking advantage of the early booking discount. Meeting downstairs in the restaurant for something to eat, everyone was seated and order taken by about 7:20pm. It was the night of the Champions League final and it was playing in the bar next door. The plan was to finish the meal, then watch the match in the bar. But the starting whistle came and went and still no food. Pedro scored, then Rooney equalised. Halt-time came and went, and still no food. The nice waitress apologised for the delay and offered everyone a complementary drink from the bar. Yeah, free beer.
Eventually, the food arrived, around the time Villa scored (9:30pm), and everyone was finished just in time for the final whistle to blow. Reports from the bar indicated that it was full of crying Man U supporters. Not really sure if there would be many people at the tournament party, the BUG crowd headed back to their rooms, and where tucked up in bed by 10pm, with a late night movie on the tele.
- The final point of Love Easter 2011 - 4 turnovers and a score.
- Summer League 2011 - LDW topping the league table for a short period of time.
- World Beach Ireland vs USA -
"First game of our first day pitted a nervous Irish team against the might of the Americans in the baking Italian sun. Simple errors were immediately punished and the USA quickly established a significant lead. We went nuts when we finally grabbed our first point but my most memorable moment came after that. Our second score of the game was a beautiful put from John Houston to Luke Carlisle. The disc seemed to hang for an age as the green sideline erupted, screaming at him as he chased it down. Dignified celebrations followed an easy catch."
- Greamer's Song -
- “I thought it would be funny” - Rob Lindsay throwing beer all over Linter’s wall at the BU Poker Night.
- IFDA Contract Negotiations - Signing up girls to play for BU at the IFDA Ball using raspberry sauce to write on dinner menus as official contracts
- Cork Open Street Party - just because the bar's closed and you're been kicked outside, doesn't mean the party has to stop.
Best match
Includes all matches organised by BU or played by BU associated teams.
- CHASE vs Brocolli - All-Ireland Indoors - In a tight fought game CHASE's tactics finally clicked and a massive team effort brought down the top seed. 11-10.
- CHASE vs LDW - Love Easter Final - Chase narrowly clinch victory over a very strong LDW team. Game could have gone either way, spirit was high, as was the standard of play. Great game, great contest, no ill feeling between two teams who tend to have fairly heated clashes.

Most Integrated International
Belfast has quite a number of foreign players. Which of them have adapted to the Northern Ireland way of life the best.
Alex Weisz - hailing from Spain, Portugal, Austria, USA, Argentina, Scotland, Bolivia, Kazakhstan and Blefuscu, Alex is a one man United Nations, but all this multi-culturalism is barely noticable in normal conversation. Alex works on harnessing wave energy. No, not the one you've heard of in Strangford Loch. On one you haven't heard of.
Benoit & Stéphanie Bertet
Garry Hughes - few people realise it, but the reason Garry has two 'r's in his name is because he was born in the south. (Come to think of it, that doesn't really explain it at all.)
Kevin Shine - He may be an America in Belfast (that doesn't really work. If we were in Paris that would work,... or if he were a werewolf) Kevin likes to reverse the roles by sending natives to far away countries.
Richard 'Sich' Constable - Sich has been a resident of Northern Ireland for the better part of a decade. Though, he does try to live as far away from the rest of Northern Ireland as he can. Also, rather than trying to fit in, he tries his best to make everyone else more English!
Robert 'Rob' Lindsay - though originally from Dublin, Rob has been living as a Northerner for most of his life. If you ignore the sort of Dublin accent, Rob could totally pass as a nordie.
Award for Outstanding Action Sequences
or the Stuntman/woman award. Who puts their body in harms way, in an attempt to show off (...and maybe get the disc.)
Adam Glover - not one, but two hospital trips this year, Adam enjoys the excuse of a serious injury, in order to get to know some friendly nurses (particularly ones from Dublin.) If it's not getting the fire brigade out for a suspected spinal injury, then it's getting a broken, it's not broken, but it is, collar bone.
- Ben Matthews - for his cutting under.
ob - for the one layout at Cork Open
Richard 'Sich' Constable - for someone with so many years of experience and who is supposed to be a sensible adult, Sich even lays out after discs that aren't even in-bounds. It's not the frequency of the layouts, but the landings. He makes it look like we should call an ambulance for that split second before he gets up again and laughs it off. "It is not enough that I simply catch the disc, I must break my enemies morale with a gratuitous acrobatic display."
Best Supporting Sideline
Who encourages and builds up their team members the best (or not).
Adam Glover
Alan 'Marco' McWatters - from Worlds Beach - "Disc Retention!!!! and Disc Retention!!"
Benoit Bertet
Chris 'Windy' Millar - "I love it when he says my name. When he talks, I play better."
says his nominator.
Stephen 'Steve' Hammond
